Creating a custom page template in CTC

The slideshow that I published on Thursday is perhaps a little hard to follow without the verbal part of the presentation. So here’s a walk-through of the process for cloning one of the CTC page templates to make your own. In this example I’m going to copy the “Topics” template as a “Products” template.

The process is as follows, and the slideshows show the process in more detail (further information is given in the image captions – just click on a thumbnail to start the slideshow)

  • Set up a page from the “Topics” template, and a child page from the “Topic detail” template
  • Modify the content here to reflect the new site area – in this case we just change the word “topics” to “products”, but your customization could go much further.

.

  • Clone the “Topics” authoring template, presentation template, and inline editing component making any desired modifications

.

  • Move the content to wherever you want to keep template content (in this case a Microsites area in the main library, but a dedicated library is probably a better pattern)
  • Move the pages to the Hidden Pages –> Page Templates area

Now you can test creating a page with the newly created template. You’ll be able to find it straight away in the page template list, as shown below – you can see that the process has automatically created the “Product Detail” template.

  2. Hi
After creating page template , the page I created based on the page template doesnt have any library associated to it.
I did add the Microsites to my Library structure and moved the content to Microsites.
    Please advice me.
